Insight Legal Software’s start-up support for niche Ashteds Solicitors

Ashteds Solicitors is a dynamic Leicester-based law firm that specialises in all aspects of dispute resolution, restructuring, insolvency and corporate recovery work.

The Law Firm

When setting up his new law firm, Ashwin Mody of Ashteds Solicitors decided on his primary objectives – to concentrate on niche area specialisms and establish innovative funding strategies unique to each client. In doing so, Ashteds could distinguish itself from any large, multi-service rivals.

Selecting Insight Legal Software’s comprehensive practice management system, administered on a cloud-hosted platform and supported by a fully committed supplier, Ashteds had the prime tools and back-up to get its business off the ground and deliver expert legal services on a flexible-fee basis.

Established in 2014, its lawyers possess over 30 years’ experience of complex ground-breaking cases in the UK and abroad gained from previous positions in major commercial practices.

As a start-up business, Ashteds’ aims were to offer its clients first-rate services and value for money via flexible payment terms, both of which are difficult to achieve in bigger law firms.

To accomplish these goals, Ashteds placed great consideration on investing in the best technology to allow efficient, responsive, cost-effective working.

The Requirements

Ashteds sought an IT partner capable of providing complete practice management software encompassing features for every business function.

Key prerequisites identified were ease of use, low cost, statistical analysis capabilities and back-up support services.

Ashwin Mody, Principal at Ashteds, explains:

“In the process of setting up my practice, I changed overnight from being just a solicitor to all-in-one practice manager, business development executive, compliance officer, legal cashier and solicitor. The majority of these roles were completely new and half scared me to death!

"Simultaneously wearing so many different hats but being far from an IT expert, choosing my software supplier was determined by their systems’ utility and user friendliness, as well as quality of support for those occasions when I need it. The Solution

Ashteds received demonstrations from a few select legal software companies, Insight Legal amongst them.  Ashwin continues:

“Right from the original demonstration, Insight Legal helped us answer questions posed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority relating to systems, policies and information security which ultimately assisted in gaining the SRA’s seal of approval to commence operations.

“There’s something for everyone in Insight Legal Software. It’s now used centrally in our practice for accounts and case management plus reporting their associated finances.”

“Because the system’s hosted, there’s no set-up cost, just an agreed monthly fee. And, whenever I want support, there’s someone there at the end of a phone line.”

Following ¾ day’s worth of on-site end-user training, Ashteds went live with Insight and concurrently opened their doors for business on 1st April 2014.

The Results

The benefits experienced by Ashteds’ 3 users are wide-ranging and abundant.  Ashwin adds:

“I can’t overemphasise Insight Legal Software’s usefulness for new start-ups. It’s reasonably priced, doesn’t blind you with science and gives the information you need in easily exportable report format.

“Provision of information is so immediate that preparing for our recent audit only took 10 minutes. It’s not unusual for this process to take 5 days. Needless to say, the time savings are immense.

“It’s so straightforward and logical to use that it’s almost impossible to get tasks wrong. However, Insight’s after-sales support team are readily available if it goes pear shaped! They’re able to remotely control individual PCs to fix mistakes as you watch. I sometimes wonder if Insight staff ever sleep because they’re always contactable. This is hugely reassuring.

“The software is adaptable too. One of my ongoing requirements is tracking non-chargeable time so that I can see where we’re devoting ourselves when not fee earning. Separate codes were created for this very purpose so this knowledge is accessible at my fingertips.
