Brian Welsh

A veteran of the legal IT industry, Brian holds over 25 years’ experience in the provision of software solutions, with a key focus on Property and Legal Software. Starting out as a developer he has held a number of Senior Management roles in Legal Software with a mixture of CEO, Sales, Product and Acquisitions. In 2010 Brian left Legal Software when he completed a Management Buy-Out to create a Property Management Software business in Scotland, a company that within 7 years services 90% of the market it serves.

Having crossed paths in 2008 with Tim and Deborah, Brian was asked to join Insight Legal in 2012 and jumped at the chance to get involved.

Brian brings many years of software business management to the CEO role with a focus on bringing the team together to deliver the company’s growth and direction plans over the coming years. He is passionate about our values and making a real difference to the everyday lives of legal practitioners and ensuring they understand the value that legal software can bring to the modern workplace. It is his ultimate goal for every law firm to know the name “Insight Legal”.

Brian is a self-confessed workaholic and gets a real buzz out of the businesses he is involved in and also does a bit of Start-Up Investing. Like Deborah he can also be found seeking out culinary delights. Being Scottish he has been a season ticket holder at Murrayfield for many years and is very much enjoying the rugby being played by the Scottish team of late. He enjoys golf and skiing when he has the time but admits to not being that good at either.

Tim Smith

Tim Smith

Technical Director

Tim has over 25 years’ experience in the Legal IT sector. Until 2009, he was responsible for the design and development of all the Windows-based AlphaLAW Solicitors’ system. His software was used by in excess of 1,000 firms, winning numerous awards and accolades from both industry bodies and users alike.

Establishing that there was a need for a Legal Software supplier to provide an entirely new legal software product combined with unparalleled support, he founded Insight Legal in 2011.

As Founder and Technical Director, Tim uses his expertise and customer-focused ethic to bring high quality but affordable software to law firms, helping customers to achieve compliance, efficient business management and streamlined processes.

Outside of work, Tim is a bit of a whizz in the kitchen and enjoys cooking, perhaps whilst sampling the odd glass of wine.

Sporting activities mainly involve watching rugby, motorcycle racing and cricket.

He is also the proud father to two teenage children and spends much of his time being frightened about how grown up they are!
